For several years, I have been working in cooperation with the academic prep school in the Hebrew University. There are many students who come to the pre-academic preparatory program to try and have a chance in the academic world. Lots of the students come from difficult socio-economic background and with language barriers; students that deserve some extra help. I am establishing a volunteer- based mechanism to help students with motivation, but with a disadvantaged starting point relative to the rest of society, to succeed in their studies.

Currently I am a Ph.D student in neurobiology and a teaching assistant in System Physiology for medical students. I strive to continue to move forward on the academic levels but also to engage in volunteer- based teaching and education.

A few words about my research, Pain at its source:

Identification of transducer proteins, receptors and cellular pathways has highly advanced the pain field, enabling to explain pain sensation in molecular terms. Most of the molecular and physiological properties of nociception are obtained by experiments conducted in heterologous expression systems or in cell bodies of cultured dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons. However, the actual nociceptive perception takes place in the distal nociceptive terminals localized in the skin or viscera. As such, a description of the actual detection and transmission of noxious stimuli has not been obtained and may hold different molecular dynamics than that found in the cell body. The aim of our project is to describe how noxious stimuli are transmitted in the terminals of nociceptors. Understanding the terminals processing of information in normal and pathological states may form the basis for more effective and specific pain treatments.
